Welch School
The school called Welch is believed to have been held in a sawmill cabin in Scott’s Gulf. It was about three miles up the river from Bethesda. It may have been called Ball’s Bottom at one time.
The teacher of the Welch School was Mrs. Lillie Donelson. The children in the sawmill camp and the Welch children who lived on the mountain attended the school.
The school closed when a larger school was built at Cedar Shoals.
